HDTV Televisions
Alright! It’s not everyday that you wake up in the morning, turn on your television set, and suddenly decide that you’d like to trade your standard analog television set for an HDTV television. As in – not counting the more premium priced HDTV television sets – one has to understand the technology involved and the benefits of an upgraded television set.
HDTV means High Definition Television. It is a common saying that HDTV television is a digital television, but not all digital televisions are HDTV televisions. Why is that so?
Let’s look at analog TV versus digital TV first. A digital television transmits sound and picture by ones and zeros instead of a radio wave like analog television. Because of this, picture clarity and color contrast are much better, as well as enabling it to have a higher picture resolution. At the moment, HDTV television has 1,080 lines of resolution compared to only 480i for digital television. This accounts for the higher picture quality then.
Likewise, with a digital television, you can broadcast various programs in the same bandwidth. This eliminates any crowding of programs on a particular bandwidth.

Moreover, HDTV television has better audio quality than analog television. Think of movies like “Gone with the Wind” or “Independence Day”. It’s like going to the movies in the comfort of your home settee and in the company of family and friends.
Since HDTV television also sports the “wide-screen” character of cinema movies, it can be very impressive to watch and enjoy regaling your senses with excellent and lifelike picture and sound with your new television.
But a word of caution. Not all areas of the US are HDTV-enabled. It depends largely on your location. You can access HDTV in three ways: a) by a satellite provider; b) by your local cable operator who hopefully is already programming in HDTV; and c) a digital HTV antenna. Either way, all the benefits mentioned above would still be there compared to analog television.
Have great viewing then!
